Safari jackets: bushwacking

Someone said recently that safari jackets were a must-have this season, so if you're going to get one you might as well get one that isn't strictly a safari jacket, such as this 1942 paratrooper jump jacket from Buzz  Rickson's, above, or the Woolrich Woollen Mills Upland Jacket in Burberry cloth, or Nigel Cabourn's canvas offering below (at Yoox)  bottom.

White Mountaineering SS 2012 Dune Rover: wandering free

This is a fairly tame offering as far as White Mountaineering is concerned and all the more better for it as far as I am concerned, because this stuff has 'sell-by' written all over it on the timeless styleometer.

Take those cargo pants. I just wouldn't. But I don't mind the jacket.

Stussy Deluxe SS2012: Older, wiser

The new Stussy Deluxe lookbook features Alex "Baby" Turnbull, one of the old school of skaters and a long-time friend of Shawn Stussy.

Alex is a former British skateboarding champion who is also quite handy with the martial arts and is a musician and DJ. He has just produced and co-directed a film called Beyond Time, which is a documentary about the history of postwar modern art, through the life of his father William Turnbull - the pioneer of British Modernism.

So watch the video - he has a lot to say.

Acronym SS12: timeless futurism

With all this attention focused around heritage and workwear collections, I'm not sure if it's reassuring or worrying to see Acronym wheel out another collection which looks almost identical to everything else it has put out over the last few years.

The trouble is, as everyone else moves on from stark technical futuristic lines and leafs back through the scrapbooks of history to a more deconstructed time, Acronym's German roots really begin to show through.

But there are a couple of aspects which keep the Acronym name alive for me, such as the waterproof fabrics, the ergonomic fit and the  faultless manufacturing.

Camo: now you see it

Buzz Ricksons

Have you got your bit of camo yet? In case you didn't already know, it's back again after a few seasons out in the woods, and everyone has incorporated a few pieces into their collections.

The temptation might well be to deck yourself out from head to toe but it doesn't take a genius to work out that you could end up looking like Johnny Kingdom. So keep it sparing and try to avoid the Navy Seal face paint.
