Mr Porter: Behind the site

You log on to the site, add your item to the basket, you pay, and if you're lucky it turns up a day or so later. That's about as much as we have to do with online retailers such as Mr Porter.

What we don't usually see is the machine that's making all of that happen, from presentation of your item right through to the dispatch. In Mr Porter's case, it's a pretty big machine. A small army of customer service operatives, a separate floor of IT staff, magazine editors, stylists, photographic studios, and more all housed in a state of the art office above the Westfield shopping centre in West London.

Mr Porter's service is second to none and it's evident from these images from A Continuous Lean that they've gone to a lot of effort to make sure things stay that way.

Visvim Grizzly boots: tough

The Grizzly is one of the most anticipated releases in the Visvim inventory. It is the Visvim version of the Yuketen Maine Guide boot and as a fan of both brands, I would say that on this occassion Yuketen got there first. This, however is arguably a more interesting offering, if only for the trademark heel stabilizer and jungle-boot-esque canvas or denim side panels.

PS: To whoever got the pair of these that came up on Yoox for, like, five minutes, I salute you.

Nigel Cabourn @ Bread & Butter: Full force

Back in July Nigel Cabourn and the crew set up camp at the Bread & Butter trade show in Berlin to showcase the spring-summer collection which is filtering through to the stores about now. None of the subtlety of the previous military influences - this time around he's gone for full-on camo. But cool camo, I'm sure you'll agree.
